Dear HPA Families,
My heart is full! The last 24 hours presented challenges to our community, and we came together for our students. The nationwide TikTok threats created alarm and fear for us all. Determined to ensure the safety of our students and staff we were proactive and took additional safety measures so that our kids could experience the joy and festivities planned for today.
Even with the uncertainty of the social media threats, every staff member came to work ready to do what it takes to end our year together as a community. We called all staff to arrive at work earlier than usual so that we could communicate our safety plan. In typical High Point Academy fashion staff had an all-hands-on-deck attitude. As you may have seen we stationed staff outside at carpool to check student backpacks prior to entering the building. Knowing that students may have been scared about the social media posts and seeing so many staff members outside, the staff greeted students with cheer and spirit. Students entered the building walking through a tunnel of teachers reassuring them and wishing them a wonderful day (while checking their backpacks). It is our collective response and actions today that fill my heart. (see picture).
As we head off to winter break, I want to acknowledge how hard this school year has felt to students, teachers, and families. I want to thank you for your continued partnership and trust. We are learning each day how to better support our students and staff from the trauma and stress of this ongoing pandemic. What I know for sure is that together we can continue to nurture our special school.
I am grateful for our small and close community, and the relationships that we have with you, our students, and each other that help keeps us safe.
I wish you and the entire HPA community a Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
