Important Update: Online Schooling Information – Online Learning

Online Learning:

As you know, Governor Polis has suspended in-person learning and closed school buildings until April 17th. We have been working around the clock to create an online learning experience to support our students until school reopens. The goal is to provide students with weekly lessons in each content area and to provide weekly social connection with their peers and teacher/advisor. We know that our approach may not feel extensive or robust for some families, and we know that our approach may feel too extensive and overwhelming for some. Knowing that each family is facing their own unique challenges during this uncertain time, we have landed on an approach that balances the two and supports students’ continued learning. Here is what you can expect:

Online content expectations presented through Google Classroom:

  • Monday morning by 9:00AM, teachers will send out the weekly lesson and the accompanying assignments to their students. These lessons will be recorded and students can access the lesson at a time that works for them and your family. Attendance will be tracked through google classroom.
  • By Thursday, 12:00AM midnight, all weekly assignments are due from students to their teacher. Students are able to turn assignments in prior to Thursday, midnight’s deadline.
  • Friday, teachers will grade assignments and reach out to students and families directly with feedback. Grades will be entered into PowerSchool.
  • Students who receive support through an IEP, 504, ELL, ALP or other plan will be contacted directly by their case manager to determine and share how services will be provided.
  • Teachers will reach out to you with specific details regarding your child’s class/advisory.
  • If preschool, kindergarten, first or second grade teachers are providing content through tangible worksheets and packets instead of an online lesson, the teacher will communicate that with you ahead of time.

Online community building & social expectations presented through Zoom:

  • Each week advisors and homeroom teachers will schedule a meeting, where students will be able to socialize with their peers, connect with one another in a structured prosocial environment with their teacher/advisor.
  • These meetings will be live and students will need to attend at the scheduled time.

School Schedule:

  • 9:00-3:00 – Monday – Friday – Teachers will be available for support, family meetings, content support, and any other needs you and your child may have. All communication between HPA and families will be conducted through HPA email, google classroom, and Zoom.
  • 12:00-1:00 – Monday – Friday – Teacher, staff, and student lunch hour.
  • HPA 36 hour response time (to emails and communication) remains in effect through this closure.
  • Week of March 30th – computer checkout and first ‘practice’ lesson and/or class/advisory meeting for each student.
  • Week of April 6th – official start of our online schooling.
