This week for 2nd grade we will partition rectangles into rows and columns, a strategy used in third grade to help with multiplication. For 3rd grade this week, we will apply all that we have learned about area and perimeter and apply these concepts to real world situations.

2nd and 3rd grade Reading and Writing – Mrs. Jeanette Epp

Welcome to the 5th week of your summer reading and writing classroom. This week we will continue reading fiction text and answering comprehension questions about what you read. You will also find a virtual escape room to explore!  This classroom is set up for students in 2nd or 3rd grade although there are resources that might be fun for the whole family to participate.  I hope to see many of you pop in and find something fun to read or fun to write about.

This week in 4th and 5th grade reading/writing with Mrs. Bongard we will continue reading Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis.  In this book it is the year 1936 in Flint Michigan and we follow the story of a ten-year-old boy, named Bud, who is on a mission to find the dad he’s never met– let’s jump in!

6th Language Arts – Ms. Angela Cummins

Welcome!  For the next two weeks, students will continue working on reading comprehension, context clues by using a history of hip hop song, and reading two great poems by Langston Hughes (the two poems are a great focus on what the world is currently experiencing).  The reading BINGO sheet and journal prompts are still available for students to complete as an option for the next three weeks of summer learning.

6th and 7th Grade Math – Mrs. Brianne Thomas

This week middle school math students will continue working on geometry by finding the area of squares, rectangles, and triangles. These are the foundation skills for all sixth-grade geometry standards and will be built on throughout sixth grade geometry and beyond.

7th Grade Social Studies – Mr. Chris Li

Last week we delved into how something simple as appearance, and how it can change how the world looks at them. This week we are going to talk about how not only Viking’s appearances were exaggerated, but also their culture. If you think about how much impact someone’s appearance can make, we are going to take a look at what happens when you exaggerate their entire culture to your own benefit.
